This high-performance voltage regulator rectifier is designed to deliver stable voltage and reliable operation Compatible with Mercury outboard motors ranging from 40HP to 275HP.this 6-wire regulator is a t fit replacement for parts 815279T, 883072T, 854515, and 815279-3. Engines: 40HP, 50HP, 55HP, 60HP, 75HP, 90HP, 100HP, 115HP, 125HP, 135HP, 150HP, 175HP, 200HP, 225HP, 250HP, 275HP Numbers: 815279T, 883072T, 854515, 815279-3 🔹 Detailed Function of Each Wire Wire Color Function Description Yellow ×2 AC Input from Stator These two yellow wires carry AC voltage from the stator (alternator) to the rectifier. They are interchangeable (no polarity). Resistance between yellow wires ≈ 0.2–0.6 Ω. Should be open (no continuity) to ground. With engine running, expect 20–70 VAC (varies with RPM). Red (male bullet) DC Output – B+ (to battery positive) Provides the regulated DC output to charge the battery or power system. Connects to battery + through the main harness and fuse.⚠️ Never disconnect this wire or the battery while the engine is running—doing so can destroy the rectifier. Red (female bullet) Voltage Sense (feedback) Allows the regulator to “sense” actual battery voltage for accurate regulation. Must connect to the same positive point as the B+ output. Some harnesses already join both reds together. Black Ground / B- (negative) Main ground for the regulator. Must be firmly connected to engine ground or battery – . Poor grounding causes overheating or failure. Gray Tachometer Signal Outputs a pulsed signal for the tachometer. Leave it insulated if no tach is used. On dual-regulator 40 A systems, connect the gray wire from only one regulator to the tachometer to avoid double signal. 🔹 Installation Tips 1. Always disconnect the battery before installation. Reconnect only after everything is wired. Never run the engine with the battery or red wire disconnected. 2. Match colors carefully: Yellow ↔ stator yellow, Red (male) ↔ battery +, Red (female) ↔ sense, Black ↔ ground, Gray ↔ tachometer. 3. Ensure solid heat contact: The back of the regulator must sit flush on the mounting surface with a thin layer of thermal compound for cooling. Apply a small amount of dielectric grease on terminals to prevent corrosion. 4. For twin-regulator (40 A) systems: Connect both units in parallel as per factory harness; only one gray wire goes to the tachometer. 🔹 Quick Troubleshooting Symptom Likely Cause Check Battery not charging / low voltage Open B+ wire, poor ground, or bad sense connection Verify red and black wires continuity, measure stator AC between yellows. Overcharging (> 15.5 V) Sense wire not connected to battery +, or failed regulator Confirm both red wires are at same voltage as battery. Overheating / regulator burn-out Loose ground, poor heat sink, or battery disconnected during run Clean surfaces, use thermal paste, ensure battery always connected.
